South Africa's job market: Where hope goes to die

In a bold move, the North West province has taken the crown for the most depressing place to try and find a job. With an unemployment rate of 40.1% and an expanded unemployment rate of 54.7%, it's no wonder people are considering a career change to professional gambler or professional line-stander. Meanwhile, the rest of the country is just over here, shrugging and saying, "Good luck with that."

The latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) from Stats SA revealed that the national unemployment rate has increased to 33.2%, because who needs jobs when you have Netflix? A whopping 140,000 people joined the ranks of the unemployed between April and June, while only 19,000 managed to secure employment. It's like winning the lottery, but instead of money, you win a lifetime supply of rejection letters.
