BEDFORDVIEW, JOHANNESBURG - A popular café in Bedfordview was shut down yesterday after a massive cockroach infestation was discovered in the kitchen, sparking a frantic evacuation of patrons and staff.
According to eyewitnesses, customers were enjoying their morning coffee when suddenly, a swarm of cockroaches scratched across the countertops, sending diners scrambling for the door.
"We were just having a meeting when it happened," said local business owner, Mark Thompson. "It was like something out of a horror movie. The café staff were great, they got everyone out quickly, but it was chaos."
The Bedfordview Health Department has condemned the cafe, citing "unacceptable hygiene standards" and ordering a deep clean and pest control treatment before it can reopen.
Café owner, Sarah Lee, apologized to patrons and vowed to get the business back on track. "We take food safety seriously and are working to rectify the situation. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to serving you again soon."
The incident has sparked concerns about food safety in the area, with locals calling for increased inspections and accountability.
Local really is lekker!
