The pornography paradox: A lonely vice

In a world where connection and intimacy are just a click away, it's staggering that one of the most popular pastimes is also the most isolating. Pornography, the ultimate solo activity, has become a staple of modern entertainment. But have you ever stopped to think about it? Why is it that something meant to simulate human connection is almost exclusively consumed in solitude?
A recent survey of 80 individuals in my community revealed some telling stats:
- 78 out of 80 respondents admitted to watching pornography alone (97.5%)
- 1 respondent claimed to watch it with their therapist (clearly a cry for help, or BS)
- 1 respondent said "none of your business, mate" (par for the course)
But seriously, is it because the thrill of watching strangers fake affection is just too embarrassing to share with others? Or perhaps it's because the unrealistic expectations and objectification of performers would be a bit too cringe-worthy in a group setting.
The real tragedy is that this solitary vice is eating away at our ability to form genuine connections. We're trading meaningful relationships for fleeting highs, all while wondering why we're so lonely.
So, the next time you feel the urge to indulge, ask yourself: is this really worth it? Or are there better ways to spend your time, like actually connecting with humans?
Why is pornography generally watched alone? Because everyone knows it's wrong!!!
True story!
