Millionaire Coast: Where the rich flock to watch the whales (from their estates)

The Whale Coast has become a magnet for Africa's millionaires, with Hermanus emerging as the ultimate hotspot for the wealthy. According to the Africa Wealth Report, this stretch of coastline is drawing high-net-worth individuals like a magnet, with its stunning views, pleasant weather, and proximity to Cape Town.

Apparently, the rich are willing to shell out millions for a slice of coastal heaven, complete with private estates and beachside views. And who can blame them? The beaches of Voëlklip and Grotto, overlooking Walker Bay, are undeniably stunning. It's no wonder that the likes of Fernkloof Estate and Eastcliff are becoming the go-to addresses for the affluent.

The numbers are telling: the Whale Coast now boasts 1,700 millionaires and seven centi-millionaires, with Hermanus leading the charge. Paul Kruger from Seeff Hermanus attributes the surge in popularity to the town's "stunning coastal location, weather, lifestyle, and proximity to Cape Town" – in other words, the perfect combination for a second home or investment property.

As the wealthy continue to flock to the Whale Coast, one can't help but wonder what the future holds for this picturesque stretch of coastline. Will it remain a haven for the rich, or will the charm of Hermanus wear off as the crowds of luxury developers and private estates multiply? Only time will tell.

Local really is lekker!
