Billionaire's latest masterstroke: Buying a private school empire and calling it 'philanthropy'

South African billionaire Jannie Mouton is purchasing private school giant Curro for a cool R7.2 billion. And the best part? He's doing it through his "philanthropic" foundation, because who needs actual philanthropy when you can just buy a private school empire and call it a "public benefit"?

Mouton's Jannie Mouton Foundation, a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO), will be acquiring Curro, which has a whopping 71,749 students. Because, you know, nothing says "public benefit" like a billionaire buying out a private school network and making a tidy profit in the process.

The trust's vision, according to their press release, is to "position Curro as an ever-evolving independent education institution that uses its funds to build more schools, expand facilities and offer bursaries." Yeah, because that's exactly what billionaires do – they use their vast fortunes to benefit the public, not just their own bank accounts.

And don't worry, Curro will continue to operate efficiently and expand, all while making a profit. Because, you know, non-profit and profit aren't mutually exclusive terms when you're a billionaire with a clever accountant.

The best part? Curro's growth will be accelerated through the reinvestment of its "potential returns/surplus." In other words, they'll use the money they make from wealthy parents to build more schools and expand their empire. Because that's exactly what the South African education system needs – more private schools for the elite.

So, let's all raise a glass to Jannie Mouton, the billionaire philanthropist who's going to revolutionize education in South Africa. Cheers!

Local really is lekker!
