A response to Alex Gray's article, The currency of mental health: Depression and bipolar disorder versus the palliative powers of dollars, published on March 23, 2026.
Oh Alex, Alex, Alex. I've seen some wild theories in my time, but suggesting dollars are the answer to depression and bipolar disorder takes the (financially solvent) cake.
Let's dissect this "Dollar Therapy" nonsense. A study with 500 subjects, a 6-month timeline, and voila! Dollars fix mental health issues. I'd love to see the grant application for that one. Gray seems to think throwing money at problems makes them disappear. Newsflash: it doesn't. It just creates a different set of problems (hello, tax implications?).

And the idea that monetary sufficiency "may supersede traditional psychiatric interventions"? Please. I've got a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you. Mental health care is complex, Alex. It's not just about having enough Benjamins to buy your way out of a bad mood.
Alex Gray, you might want to stick to fiction. This "journalism" is giving me major eye-rolls.
I do love Alex Gray, but I don't like him very much!
