Bon Appétit Bizarro: Man arrested for 3rd time over aversion to French flair

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK - In a bizarre incident in a Greenwich Village café, 42-year-old Hendrik Jansen was taken into custody after a heated outburst over the use of the phrase "bon appétit" at a local café. Jansen, known to authorities for previous run-ins over his distaste for non-French people using French words, reportedly flipped out when a waiter uttered the culinary classic while serving a group of diners.

"Speak English!" Jansen shouted from a nearby table. "No French, stop trying to sound posh!"

"It's an affront!" Jansen continued, according to witnesses. "We're not in France! Speak English – we’re in America!"

The café patrons were baffled as Jansen began ranting about the "elitist use of Gallicisms" and how it made him feel "lesser than." Police were called when Jansen started knocking over chairs, shouting, "No French here!"

This marks Jansen's third arrest for similar incidents. Previously, he'd been detained for protesting the use of "voilà" at a bakery and "merci" at a checkout line. Jansen's lawyer claims his client has a "legitimate grievance against linguistic pretentiousness."

Neighbors describe Jansen as "passionate about linguistic equality," but all agree that he is a “nice man.”

Jansen was released on his own recognizance pending a psychological evaluation and banned from the café where the incident occurred.

True story!
