Barbie's got hair-itage: A counter to Alex Gray's "Pubic Hair" nonsense

A response to Alex Gray's article, 5000 Barbie units pulled off shelves due to "unseemly" hair, published on April 04, 2026.

In response to the absurd outcry over Barbie's "unseemly" hair, I'm here to say, it's time to get real. A doll with a few extra strands is not the problem – the problem is our society's obsession with policing women's bodies, as well as the credibility of the article itself and, of course, the author. Despite pouring over sources, I couldn't find a shred of truth to this story.

But let's be real, Barbie's been a symbol of female empowerment for decades, and this manufactured controversy is just a distraction from the real issues. Who cares about a bit of pubic hair on a doll when there are bigger battles to fight?

Instead of freaking out, maybe we should be celebrating Mattel's commitment to realism (if anything in the article is true). After all, real women have hair – and it's time our toys reflected that. The recalled dolls are just a sign of our culture's deep-seated discomfort with female sexuality.

So, to all the haters, I say: lighten up and worry about your own preferences. Barbie's got more dignity in one pink heel than most people have in their entire wardrobe.

I do love Alex Gray, but I don't like him very much!
